Politicians should stay in the city. Leave the countryside alone. repeal this prejudice
,
March 16, 2009
...
The original campaign for the ban was based on prejudice, not animal welfare. It should never have been made law. As it stands, this law has now been shown to be unworkable and so all the taxpayer's money spent on the administration to pass this law was, like so much taxpayer's money is these days, WASTED.
,

I do not hunt myself, but want this act repealed firstly because hunting is a sensible way to limit fox numbers, and secondly because this is poor legislation from an metropolitan political party with little understanding of the countryside.

The ban was introduced to gain the votes of the "leafy lane" brigade who have no concept of traditional values

The law is a farce brought in by fools hoping to gain votes, it is not workable and pointless waste of hard working tax payers money, which includes myself. It is now time for this country to stand up for its long held traditions and beliefs and stop all the policital correctness. We need to fight for our heritage and culture.

It is a typical labour governement law which cannot be enforced, a waste of time and money like most of its policies.
,
February 23, 2009

Those who continue to hunt are not the criminals, it is those who have branded them as such who should be locked up. There is something very wrong with a country when the government is more keen to ban an activity carried out by decent law abiding people than it is to tackle issues like knife crime, poverty and child welfare. What if all the time and money pumped into banning hunting had been put into tackling MRSA or screening for otehr diseases?
,
February 21, 2009
...
The ban is driven by bigots who do not understand the countryside, its infrastructure or its purpose. Hunting is seen as a priveleged pastime for the well to do, which seems strange as more than half the riders in our local hunt rent horses for the day and rarely survive the course. perhaps the same people support the EU Human rights campaign that allows muslim extremists to terrorise our lives and get settlements from my taxes. Show me a Christian Church in Brunei (There used to be one), Tehran (There used to be one) or Jeddah and I'll show you "The biggest Mosque in London". By the way I'm not BNP but p**sed off that we seekm to forget whose country this is.

This and other stupid laws must be repealed for the sake of all who appreciate our Countryside. With the Hunting Act in place, the Governments job easier to target the legitimate firearms user. As we all know, the banning of handguns has done nothing to halt armed crime.

People should have the right to hunt ,shoot or fish just as people should have the right to protest against it. These are moral choices not one for governments.

The law was never about the welfare of the fox - it was class war waged by ill informed labour politicians - I will certainly be supporting a repeal of such a spiteful law - long live hunting and long live the Zetland Hunt!!!
,

The passage of the Hunting Act was a gross abuse of Parliamentary time and an attack on civil liberties comparable to the failed legislation to extend to 42 days the period of detention and the proposed introduction of identity cards.
,
January 18, 2009
...
The fact that we are all still hunting or supporting hunting says it all. The Act was more about social issues than animal welfare, as can be seen from the amount of time it wasted in Parliament and the way in which it was finally forced through.
,

I am a townie but still and have never had a vested interest in hunting but still feel that the ban was a massive infringement of civil liberties.

This goverment is a shambles, what they don't realise is that their misplaced priorities have had a huge effect on how we live our lives. This has nothing to do with animal rights, as most are suffering now more than ever, and all to do with unknowledgable idiots who know nothing about the lay of the land, and seem to be more intrested in the snobbery and higher class society that attaches itself to those on horseback. What little they know!!

If the Hunting fraternity tried to change the way of life of the Townies they would be upset, so why do they have the right to change our way of life. If any of them saw what a fox will do to a shed of chickens and then not take any to eat. They would then realise why foxes should be controlled.

Since the ban came into effect more predatory foxes have been controlled by means that aren't as natural as hunting with hounds. Hunting is a form of natural selection, where the dross is rooted out leaving a strong healthy vibrant population. There is no other control that is as effective or as good!
This just proves that the Act wasn't in the best interests of the animals but in the interests of the self Proclaimed Animal Defenders.

Fox hunting with hounds has always, by its very nature, removed infirm or old foxes which are also the individual animals most likely to turn to killing lambs in my home area, the fells of the Lake District. As a result, I believe it serves a dual purpose: reducing the number of lamb-takers and maintaining a tolerable and HEALTHY population of foxes. I write aa a person who has been involved with conservation (RSPB, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, etc.) for over 45 years.

The act is a deliberate attempt to single out and persecute a particular "type" of person rather than a legitimate attempt to safeguard the welfare of wild Mamals. The act of totally ignoring the Burns Report evidence and then writting an act specifically for Coursing is in my opinion evidence of the bias, bigottry and perverse approach to the use oflegislaton which the political animal rights brigade have.
Having been involved with Trade Unions for a long period throught the eighties and nineties I was well aware that at the demise of Militant in this country and the hard left in Germany that the Green movement was seen as the natural home of these sort of people. The old Trot /Entrist addage of that if you want to put over unconventional ideas then you do it while presenting tourself in as conventional a fashion as possible. Well suits the "concern and care of the green movement.

No-one, and no animal, has benefited from the Hunting Act. Its most tragic victims have been the foxes, hares and deer killed and wounded by the inefficient and inhumane alternatives to hunting with hounds. Repeal of the Act is urgent.

Repeal the bill to preserve the countryside and the fox and hare population.I have never hunted myself, preferring to observe and have learned that these animals are very clever and use guile and cunning to foil their pursuers, very often making their escape. Most ordinary country people who hunt are not concerned with the 'kill' and ride for love of the open country. Many more foxes and hares along with badgers, rabbits and squirrels are killed cruelly on the roads of today.

At last .........justice on the horizon in a supposedly " democratic " society. A stupid , nonsensical, unworkable Act which has nothing to do with animal welfare. Your dogs can legally hunt and kill a rabbit or rat but God help you if they kill a mouse !!!!!!! Pathetic. Blair and his cronies at their political crasse best. People who are involved in fieldsports/ hunting CARE more for and respect what they pursue than the vast majority of people, who eat their meat from out of clinically pre-packaged containers off supermarket shelves. Actually game meat is now more popular than ever. Hunting is a natural pursuit...........it's in our very genes. Never forget that. We don't hunt to kill....we kill in order to have hunted.

The kindest way to keep fox numbers down needs to brought back. Put an end to foxes dying painful, slow deaths through poisoning and wounding from inaccurate shots. Also as hunting kills only the weak, injured, old, it keeps the healthiest foxes alive, allowing them to breed, raise cubs etc. A shotgun is indiscriminate it could kill a healthy fox who has cubs which will starve to death without their mother. Hunting wouldn't kill a healthy fox mother. Hunting is the best and kindest way to keep fox numbers down.

I work for a hunt as a groom and the ban has made my job insecure as well as all the other jobs that there are through hunting, people who want it banned just stereotype people who hunt, by assuming everyones snobbish which is most definetly not true. There reasons for the ban have nothing to do with animals it's to do with people who they have nothing in common with.

The people that wanted this Bill were motivated by prejudice and bigotry – and these are as wrong in the Countryside as they are in workplace.
The Bill was then forced through by these people abusing a freak majority and misusing the Parliament Acts. This amounts to no more than simple bullying and bullying is as wrong in the Countryside as it is in the classroom.
This is bad legislation passed in a bad way for bad reasons. It is a stain on the history of the “Mother of Parliaments” and it needs to go.

This misguided piece of legislation should be repealed immediately. It was only introduced as a populist distraction in the first place. If Parliament are genuinely serious about protecting wildlife they should introduce laws that achieve that, instead of continually promoting the intrusion of man into the countryside and the destroying of habitat with more and more building, roads and so on. Hunting is natural. Let it continue.

The Hunting Act 2004:
has done nothing for animal welfare;
threatens livelihoods in the longer term;
ignores the findings of Lord Burn's Enquiry;
gives succour to animal rights extremists;
is based on political expedience following the ex-Prime Minister's unconsidered response on the television programme Question Time in 1999;
is framed to persecute a large minority who support a traditional activity;
does not command popular support in the country except amongst the uninformed and mal-advised.

The large amount of time and money MPs and civil servants spent banning hunting is illustrative of the misplaced priorities of this government, the madness of modern politics and the decline of common sense in favour of misguided principles and corrupt, city-biased bigotry and inverted snobbery dressed up as morality.
